An excellent model of a high-sided 7-plank open wagon fitted with coke rails for additional cubic capacity. Operated by Peake, Oliver & Peake Ltd. based at the London coal exchange this wagon is marked for coke traffic only and would have been used to transport coke from ovens in many coal fields to terminals in the London area.

Coke is a processed form of coal from which many impurities have been driven off. The resulting coke burns much more intensely than normal coal and is required for some industrial processes (eg. metal smelting furnaces) and burns more cleanly, making it a favoured fuel for some cooking stoves.
