Hornby's live steam range now features the world famous Flying Scotsman. This is a ready-to-run steam powered model, using electric power to generate steam cleanly and efficiently.

This set includes the 'Flying Scotsman' Class A3 Live Steam locomotive, Live Steam controller and transformer, track and operating accessories.

The first of four live steam locomotives. Supplied with operating tools including filling syringes, steam oil and gloves. The locomotive will also be fitted with a NEM type coupling (smaller version of Hornby's coupling which is easier to change) and is suitable for use with all Hornby rolling stock. 

Ideal for testing and running in locomotives on the workbench, Hornby's rolling road is suitable for all types of steam locomotives and most diesel locomotives. Additional rollers R8212 will be required for 2-8-0 and 2-10-0 locomotives and for diesels with more than 3 driven axles.

An excellent addition to the live steam locomotive range this model of the famous LNER 4472 Flying Scotsman locomotive is equiped with two tenders. The locomotive ran in excursion service with two tenders following the end of regular steam locomotive operation on British Rail, the second tender carried additional water, greatly extending the distance that could be covered between water stops.

This year is the 40th anniversary of the world famous 'Flying Scotsman' receiving a second tender which at the time allowed the 'Scotsman' to carry a total water load of 11,000 gallons giving it an operating distance of 200 - 250 miles before its tenders needed replenishing. The addition of this extra tender gave the 'Flying Scotsman' a unique presence and provided a dynamic sight when seen heading up a steam special.

To coincide with the 40th anniversary a special Limited Edition production run of the Hornby Live Steam 'Flying Scotsman' model with a double tender has been included in this year's range.

In total, 1,000 models will be produced with each model complete with certificate, water and oil fillers as well as instructions. This model is a unique opportunity to recreate and capture those early days of steam specials when the 'Flying Scotsman' was at that time the only steam locomotive allowed to operate on the main line.Please note, the second tender is not equipped to hold water.
