Exclusive Collectors Centres Limited Edition Class 08

A limited edition version of Hornby's superb new class 08 in BR green livery as D3986, a late build version of the class with metal cab door. Featuring outside frames and fly cranks with dozens of separately fitted detail parts, accurate bonnet detail, sprung buffers and a full cab interior with control console. Power is supplied by a powerful skew-wound 5-pole motor fitted with a flywheel for smooth running, even a standard DCC socket has been incorporated.

DCC Ready

The class 08 0-6-0 diesel electric shunter was based on prototype LMS designs and became British Railways largest fleet of shunting locomotives. Built between 1953 and 1962 at Crewe, Darlington, Derby and Doncaster. The fleet (including the class 09 locomotives) have a single cab at the No.1 end and a nose section which houses the power unit, generatoor and control equipment. Class 08 shunters, powered by an English Electric 350bhp 6KT engine have a maximum speed of 15-20mph. The design once numbered over 1,000 locomotives with around 300 remaining in service today - still the mainstay of UK shunting power.

The standard class 08 can still be seen all over the country and are expected to remain in service for many years to come. They carry out a wide range os work including shunting in marshalling yards, shunting depots and short trip workings.
