| > OO Locomotives > Bachmann Diesels | Bachmann set new standards for model locomotives using a heavy die-cast chassis with centrally placed motor to drive two axles on both trucks of the mainline locomotives. Shunters benefit from extra weight and low gearing as well. 2004 marked the 15 years of Bachmanns' British range and the locos have steadily improved, particularly with the introduction of Blue Riband range, and combine realism and detail with scale speed and train pulling performance. Take a look at the superb weathered versions of many locomotives. Just the way they looked after a few hundred miles out on the tracks.

New model announced 2008
A new model of the famous Deltic locomotive in the early BR two-tone green livery. Powered by a centrally mounted skew wound motor driving all six axles you can be confident that the pulling power for which the prototypes were known will be available from this model!
Please note that this is a change of number and name from that originally advertised in the 2008 catalogue. Powerful locomotives were needed to replace the LNER pacifics on the East Coast Mainline. With two powerful diesel engines, having opposed pistons arranged in a triangular formation, the Deltics were born and at the time of building were 50% more powerful than any other diesel in service. The East Coast naming tradition of famous regiments of the British army and racehorses, started in the Gresley era, was continued. The Deltics proved to be capable of sustained high speed running for BR's east coast mainline services, displacing steam and speeding up the timetable. Even today Deltic fans flock to occasional mainline runs to experience the unmatched power, sound and speed of these locomotives. | |
