Bachmann set new standards for model locomotives using a heavy die-cast chassis with centrally placed motor to drive two axles on both trucks of the mainline locomotives. Shunters benefit from extra weight and low gearing as well. 2004 marked the 15 years of Bachmanns' British range and the locos have steadily improved, particularly with the introduction of Blue Riband range, and combine realism and detail with scale speed and train pulling performance. New model announced 2008

The huge Derby type 4s were among the earliest mainline diesel locomotives to enter service with British Railways. Equiped with a 2,300bhp Sulzer engine the type were named after major British mountains, gaining the class and it's derivatives the nickname of Peaks.

Bachmanns' model is driven by a centrally mounted motor, powering two axles on each truck, with the outer two axles pivoted to ensure that the long wheelbase will successfully traverse sectional track. The detailed bodyshell incorporates the design details which characterise each sub-class of the Derby type 4s.
