Completed in August 1964 at Crewe works as D1615 and painted in the two-tone green livery with warning panels 47035s craeer began at Worcester shed, 85A. This was a brief allocation, D1615 moving to Cardiff Canton in October, staying in South Wales until Jan 66. A flurry of reallocations followed with a series of moves between London (Old Oak Common) and Cardiff Canton before a move to Swansea Landore in August. Jan 68 saw a transfer to Bristol (Bath Road), the next move being back to Cardiff in March 69 and via Swansea Landore in October to Neath shed until May 1973, when D1761 returned to Swansea.
D1615 had already received rail blue paint before being renumbered into the TOPS scheme as 47035, still allocated to Swansea Landore. The next move was to a new shed, Plymouth Laira in May 75. In Dec 79 47035 moved back to Bristol, but returned to Plymouth in October the following year. Two years later the loco retunred to it's old home of Cardiff Canton. 47035 was then called to works for the fitting of electric train supply equipment, emerging in Sept 83 as 47594.
Subsequently 47594 was allocated to sheds from Bristol to Glasgow serving the passenger, freight and parcels sectors and gaining the name Resourceful in 1991. In 1994 the locomotive was renumbered again, becoming 47739 as the parcels business concentrated locomotives into one numbering block. Passing to EWS and hired for a while to Serco for hauling track testing trains 47739 was placed in store in May 2003 only to be reactiveted again the following month. The loco returned to the tactical reserve (stored operational) in Jan 04, but was changed to non-operational status in March. During 2007 EWS sold many of it's old and out of use locomotives. 47739 was moved to European Metal recycling for disposal, but was last known as still extant at their site. | |
