The Class 17 locomotive was designed as the standard BR Type 1 low powered diesel locomotive. The centre cab Clayton design offered good visibility all round the locomotive, very useful when single manned of the locomotives, and the type was ordered. The class eventually had a very short life, suffering from the rapid decline in local goods trains as BR rationalised its network. The type is fondly remembered for its aesthetically pleasing design, however the low power proved a disadvantage, necessitating double heading and so eliminating the advantages the locomotives had over the more reliable EE class 20. 

The unusual design and association with short goods trains running through the scenery of Scotland where many of these locomotives worked have placed the type high on the modellers request lists for many years. Many of the class subsequently found employment in industrial locations

D 1047 'Western Lord' in BR rail blue livery with small yellow warning panels.

The distinctive roof profile of the 57 is accurately reproduced with very finely moulded cantrail louvers, grilles over the cooling fans and the new radiator panels. The angular engine exhaust system and revised roof cover panels feature bolt detailing, plus hinge and latch details on access hatches. Revised locomotive ends carry the two high intensity headlights over each buffer, with direction-controlled illumination. Separate cab and nose handrails are factory fitted, but optional parts are supplied for bufferbeam detail, included dummy coupling hooks, brake pipes, mini-plows, cable receptacles and jumper cables. NEM coupler pockets are fitted, with slimline tension-lock couplers or NEM coupling bars supplied.

33108 represents a member of the push-pull fitted sub-class 33/1 while alloctaed to the BR engineers department, following the conversion of the remaining section of the Weymouth route to electric operation. The model features the distinctive high lever control jumpers and air pipes, used to couple with southern region electric units and trailer sets. This permitted the diesel locomotive to be controlled from a remote cab in an EMU car.

Heljans class 33 features a powerful 5-pole motor and a heavy diecast chassis, allowing the mnodel to match the haulage capabilities of the prototypes. The body is finely moulded  with blackened grilles, separately fitted hadrails and fully detailed buffer beams. Tension lock couplings are supplied, along with optional mini-plows and headcode labels.

33012 was the only class 33 to carry this unique livery, featuring wrap-arong yellow cab ends inspired by the revised or large logo blue livery introduced on the refurbished class 50s, but with a standard size double arrow logo. Possibly the large double arrow logo was too large to be fitted onto a 33 bodyside.

33 207 gained the nameplates Earl Mountbatten of Burma from 33 027 when the former locomotive was withdrawn. 33 207 continued in service with the BR Railfreight Construction sector, whose 33s were kept busy wth Channel Tunnel construction trains during this time.

The class 33/2 consisted of a group of 12 class 33 locomotives which had been built with specially narrow bodyshells which allowed the locomotives to operate over the Hastings route, where several tunnels were smaller than the BR standard loading gauge.

33 112 was named Templecombe to mark the reopening of the station at Templecombe.

This locomotive was one of the group fitted with Southern region EMU type control jumpers, allowing the diesel locomotive to be controlled from the cab of an electric unit. Initially used to extend services from the end of the electrified routes the 33/1 and 4TC control trailers were later used on other duties, including summer Bristol-Weymouth trains and occasionally on Cardiff-Bristol-Portsmouth services.

A new varient of the BRCW type 2, BR class 27 model. D5377 was delivered as part of a batch intended for freight duties on the North Eastern region and was not fitted with a train heating boiler. The obvious evidence for this being the lack of a water tank, leaving a gap between the fuel tank and the truck. This model carries the BR green livery with full yellow ends, the D prefix to the number having been dropped following the end of steam traction on BR in 1968.

The Heljan model has a heavy diecast chassis powered by a centrally mounted motor with flywheels providing drive to all four axles. The bodyshell is very finely moulded, with highly effective grille detailing. Scale screw couplings are fitted to both bufferbeams, with NEM sockets provided for attaching alternative couplings. A bag of additional detailing parts is supplied, including tension-lock couplers.

The Birmingham Sulzer class 26s were best known for their work in the highlands of Scotland. Working trains over remote and inhospitable moorland reliability and good cab heating were essential.

This model depicts the 26 during most of its' working life in Scotland. Painted in the BR corporate blue livery with the cab front doors sealed and side door droplights plated over. 26 028 carries a steam heating boiler, with a water tank alongside the fuel tank beneath the underframe.

Heljan have a well-proven diecast chassis and motor drive, using flywheels for smooth running at slow speeds. The 26 is supplied with an accessory pack including the heacode discs and headstock connection hoses for brakes, heating and multiple operation.

A new version of the Heljan 26 representing the rebuilt locomotives fitted with air brake equipments for railfreight operation in Scotland. This model correctly features the air brake reservoirs mounted in a frame beneath the locomotive where the boiler water tank had previously been fitted. The revised and cleaned up cab front end is also reporduced, incorportaing the changes made during years of revenue service.

26037 is painted in the early Railfreight grey livery, a version of the large logo scheme with wrap-round yellow ends.

The real 26 038 is preserved, believed to be currently at Cardiff Canton shed where restoration is progressing in the care of a company providing maintenance services to national network operators.

This model of 58 009 is painted in the Railfreight triple grey livery with the rolling wheels logos of shadow franchise operator Mainline Freight. A particularly attractive addition to the 58's bodyside doors. The side grilles have been picked out with black paint, making them stand out clearly against the grey paint shades, providing a realistic appearance.

This model of 58 041 carries the name of one of its' major customers, the Ratcliffle Power Station near Nottingham. Painted in the original Railfreight grey livery with yellow cab sides and large arrows logo, the livery was complemented by the red painted solebars on the 58s.

This new release of Heljans' Falcon model presents the locomotive in its' last years of service from the historic Newport locomotive shed. The BR corporate blue livery is very realistically weathered and carries the 'white elephant' logo on one side. This sticker was applied by a depot wag following the loss of one of the Falcon plates. The sticker was not removed after a replacement plate had been fitted and Falcon ran for some time with the elephants' feet sticking out below the plate! Etched nameplates are supplied with the model, so you can recreate this if you wish.

A very popular model on its' first release, the heavy Heljan chassis and motor drive provides excellent haulage capacity and smooth running performance. The bodyshell replicates the original locomotive as accurately as is possible, having been researched from surviving information at Brush. A very high level of detailing has been incorporated, with excellent grille detail and separately fitted handrails.

The BR blue livery weathered badly, especially in the atmosphere created by the coal and steel industries of South Wales. Most western region enthsiasts remember Falcon and indeed many other WR locos in this sort of condition.

An excellent model of the refurbished class 26 locomotive, fitted with air brake equipment, including air tanks underslung from the body in the place previous occupied by the train heat water tank. 26 043 was sponsored by the civil engineers department and painted in their grey and yellow Dutch style livery with Eastfield depot plaques.

Heljans' reliable and smooth running chassis provides excellent performance and hauling capacity, the motor being fitted with flywheels and shaft drives to both bogies.

26 043 has been preserved at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, being delivered to Toddington in this livery. The locomotive is being restored to original condition by a group with experience of restoring train heating boilers to service.

Newly announced by Heljan is a model of the Brush/Hawker Siddeley 4000bhp prototype locomotive HS4000 Kestrel. Once the most powerful diesel locomotive in the world Kestrel undertook trials on the most challenging routes, including the Lickey grade. Following limited service with British Rail Kestrel was sold to Russia and remained in service on international services for many years.
