An excellent model of the class 57 locomotives operated by First Great Western featuring a powerful centrally mounted motor driving all six axles. Flywheels and a heavy chassis ensure smooth operation.

Following trials with prototype locomotive 57601 First Great Western selected the class 57 design to replace their small fleet of class 47 locomotives.
The locomotives are used on overnight sleeper trains, extra daytime trains and moving empty stock, including spare coaches for HST trains.

The distinctive roof profile of the 57 is accurately reproduced with very finely moulded cantrail louvers, grilles over the cooling fans and the new radiator panels. The angular engine exhaust system and revised roof cover panels feature bolt detailing, plus hinge and latch details on access hatches. Revised locomotive ends carry the two high intensity headlights over each buffer, with direction-controlled illumination. Separate cab and nose handrails are factory fitted, but optional parts are supplied for bufferbeam detail, included dummy coupling hooks, brake pipes, mini-plows, cable receptacles and jumper cables. NEM coupler pockets are fitted, with slimline tension-lock couplers or NEM coupling bars supplied.

One of the new services opened up in recent years has been the Wrexham and Shropshire companys' service to London. This train is operated in push-pull mode by a class 67 locomotive and a driving van trailer (DVT) formed at opposite ends of a set of Mk.3 coaches.

A new model of the Virgin Pendolino electric train set as operating on the West Coast mainline. Hornby have produced a four-car train pack, including two end cars as the base for a train. Additional coaches are available to make up a longer Pendolino train.

This train is supplied with factory fitted DCC decoders providing maximum control over the lighting functions.
