The release of Heljan's Falcon model presents the locomotive in its' last years of service from the historic Newport locomotive shed. The BR corporate blue livery is very realistically weathered and carries the 'white elephant' logo on one side. This sticker was applied by a depot wag following the loss of one of the Falcon plates. The sticker was not removed after a replacement plate had been fitted and Falcon ran for some time with the elephant's feet sticking out below the plate! Etched nameplates are supplied with the model, so you can recreate this if you wish.

A very popular model on its' first release, the heavy Heljan chassis and motor drive provides excellent haulage capacity and smooth running performance. The bodyshell replicates the original locomotive as accurately as is possible, having been researched from surviving information at Brush. A very high level of detailing has been incorporated, with excellent grille detail and separately fitted handrails.

The BR blue livery weathered badly, especially in the atmosphere created by the coal and steel industries of South Wales. Most western region enthsiasts remember Falcon and indeed many other WR locos in this sort of condition.

Bachmann have announced the reintroduction of the class 03 locomotive model in OO. This model is being produced from completely new tooling and will feature a die cast running plate to increase the weight and tractive effort of this small locomotive.

A new weathered version of the excellent Bachmann class 08 diesel shunter. This model presents a typically unkept appearance of much of the BR locomotive fleet during the 1970s.

Fitted with new chassis

The class 17 locomotive was designed as the standard BR type 1 low powered diesel locomotive. The centre cab design submitted by Clayton offered good visibility all round the locomotive, required for single manning of the locomotives and the type was ordered. The locomotives proved eventually to have only very short lives, suffering from the rapid decline in local goods trains as BR rationalised its network. The type is fondly remembered for its aesthetically pleasing design, however the need for double heading elimitated the advantages the locomotives had over the more reliable EE class 20.

The unusual design and association with short goods trains running through the scenery of Scotland where many of these locomotives worked have placed the type high on the modellers request lists for many years.

New model, delivery expected Nov 2010

Two of the BR class 17 Clayton locomotives were used by the RTC in the mid-1970s, outlasting the service life of the class by a few years. Though laterly used as little more than mobile generators they were to be seen hauling some test trains.

Heljan have listed this model as D8512, however as the RTC loco was D8521 we think this might be a typo. The livery will be BR blue with yellow ends and double-arrow logos.

Fitted with an on-board DCC sound system this class 20 brings the distinctive engine sounds of this early British diesel locomotive to your layout. Sounds which gave the 20s their nkcnames of 'whistling wardrobes' refering to the turbo whistle and plethora of bodyside doors, or 'choppers' due to the distinct diesel exhaust sound, much like the sound of a helicopters' rotors.

This BR blue liveried locomotive 20 034 represents the initial production batch of the class 20s equiped with train headcode discs. A centrally mounted motor drives all four axles via driveshafts, providing smooth running and excellent hauling capabilities. A small pack of additional parts including extra sandboxes, brake pipes and MU cables is supplied, allowing different detail configurations to be modelled. The DCC decoder can be used straight out of the box, or tuned to suit the running of your layout.

Bachmann have made their excellent BR class 20 model even better by incorporating a few changes in response to modellers comments. Driven by the proven Bachmann mechanism the model includes details down to the small differences in bogie frames.

The sound options grow again with this relaese of the ever-popular BR class 25 with an on-board sound system.

The 1,250bhp Sulzer powered class 25s were found all over the British Rail network from the 1960's until the mid-1980's. Their small size and low power fit well with the short trains many modellers run, now sound will bring even more interest and realism to small layouts. The Birmingham Sulzer class 26s were best known for their work in the highlands of Scotland. Working trains over remote and inhospitable moorland reliability and good cab heating were essential.

This model depicts the 26 during most of its' working life in Scotland. Painted in the BR corporate blue livery with the cab front doors sealed and side door droplights plated over. 26 028 carries a steam heating boiler, with a water tank alongside the fuel tank beneath the underframe.

A new green liveried class 26 model announced for the autumn of 2010.

Powered by a centrally mounted motor surrounded by a heavy, diecast chassis block and driving all four axles. The drive mechanism delivers excellent slow running performance and train haulage capabilities. Heljans' bodyshell is well detailed, with finly reproduced grilles and a pack of optional detailing parts, allowing easy super-detailing of the 'front end' for leading trains or display. 

This model of D5332 will be finished in the early BR green livery with small yellow warning panels.

A new version of the Heljan 26 representing the rebuilt locomotives fitted with air brake equipments for railfreight operation in Scotland. This model correctly features the air brake reservoirs mounted in a frame beneath the locomotive where the boiler water tank had previously been fitted. The revised and cleaned up cab front end is also reporduced, incorportaing the changes made during years of revenue service.

26037 is painted in the early Railfreight grey livery, a version of the large logo scheme with wrap-round yellow ends.

26006 was converted for operating merry-go-round coal services to Cockenzie power station in 1967. This model will be painted in the Railfreight grey livery with red solebar stripe, introduced in the early 1980s.

Following the success of the class 26 a follow up order was placed with BRCW in 1960 for sixty more locos to the same basic design but with the later Sulzer 6LDA28B power unit and an increased top speed of 90mph. Numbered D5347-D5415 and to become the class 27, delivery commenced in July 1961 with locos been allocated to Glasgow Eastfield, Thornaby and Cricklewood depots. From 1967 all the English locos started to be transfered north with the whole class been allocated to depots in Scotland by the begining of the 1970s.

Model is in BR blue livery with full wrapwround yellow fronts and pre tops number as carried by this class from 1968 till TOPS renumbering took place between 1973-75.

Version 2. This New tooling is based on the original Scottish based locos which were fitted with tablet catcher recesses and sliding cab windows. This model also has the early fitted nose/gangway doors as carried from new when built at BRCW Smethick in the West Midlands.

Hornby have made an excellent model of the Brush class 31, with many options available from the new tooling. This allows many variations between members of the class to be recreated. Drive to all axles is supplied by a 5-pole skew wound motor mounted centrally in a heavy diecast chassis.

31 105 is presented in the Railfreight grey livery with wrap-round yellow ends and red solebar stripe. This model is DCC ready and can also be supplied with a DCC decoder fitted.

The 'Baby Deltic' was a partially successful attempt to use the Deltic engine, which was proving highly successful in the class 55 express passenger locomotives, in a smaller locomotive. Built with the typical EE nose end body styling the locomotives quite resembled the larger locomotives. Although the class 23s proved powerful and capable locomotives the Deltic power units were not well suited to the start-stop routine of suburban railway service. A review of locomotive performance by BR as a prelude to concentrating on fewer, more standard locomotive classes under the National Traction Plan brought the Baby Deltics' lives to an end in the early 1970s.

A new model of the BR Southern region class 33 diesel electric locomotive. Heljans model captures the look of these reliable locomotives with very fine grille detail. The heavy diecast chassis containing a centrally mounted motor with drive to all four axles provides plenty of power for this useful locomotive.

This model of 6572 is painted in the standard rail blue livery. Use of the D prefix to the number was discontinued carried after the last steam locomotives were withdrawn and this number was carried until TOPS renumbering into class 33.

Model of locomotive 33202, one of the narrow bodied 'Hastings Gauge' class 33 locomotives. These engines were built to the restrictive loading gauge imposed by the small-bore tunnels in the hastings area. They frequently escaped however, being found far from the coast on thains which were routed via Hastings and standing in for the standard 33/0 types when required.

This locomotive was one of the group fitted with Southern region EMU type control jumpers, allowing the diesel locomotive to be controlled from the cab of an electric unit. Initially used to extend services from the end of the electrified routes the 33/1 and 4TC control trailers were later used on other duties, including summer Bristol-Weymouth trains and occasionally on Cardiff-Bristol-Portsmouth services.

D7051 is in the unusual early blue livery and is???in a weathered finish, Heljans' first weathered 'Hymek'.

7017 represents this loco at the end of its BR working life, devoid of cast numbers and with white transfer numbers instead. The locomotive entered preservation in this condition, though quickly acquiring a D&EPG logo from her new owners.

D7061 painted in the BR blue livery of the late 1960s and early 1970s.

BR Railfreight operated the majority of the class 37 fleet, introducing a grey livery with wrap-around yellow ends and large arrows logo. This plain livery was enhanced with the addition of a red solebar stripe.

37378 was one of a group of machines equiped with regeared bogies for improved tractive effort, a welcome variant within the ViTrains range.

Powered by a centrally mounted motor with flywheels in a diecast chassis drives two axles on each bogie through helical reduction gears. Accurately reproduced tumblehome, bonnet shaping and end taper are complemented with flush glazing, etched windscreen wipers, etched roof fan grilles and finely moulded bodyside grille and panel detailing.

A new version of the BR class 37 locomotive model recreating the locomotives with the original valances in place during the BR blue period.

37251 was a long-term South Wales resident throughout the BR blue period, but travelled widely especially to locations connected with the coal, iron and steel industry. During this time 37s were the staple freight power on both sides of the Bristol channel, though not normally in a clean condition!

The bodyshell is finely detailed with excellent side and curved cantrail grille mouldings. 40129 represents one of the large English Electric type 4, or class 40 locomotives fitted with 4-character headcode boxes divided either side of the central communicating doors. BR Class 42 Warship D812 Royal Naval Reserve BR Blue

New model announced 2010. Expected Autumn 2010.

A fine and detailed model of the Derby type 4 class 45 with split headcode boxes. These large diesels were the mainstay of the Cross-Country network for many years.

45120 was a member of the class retro fitted with Electric Train Heating Supply (ETS or ETH) to operate the heating and air conditioning equipement on Mk.2D/E/F coaches.

Bachmann's new class 47 model features a heavy chassis with six-axle drive from a centrally mounted 5-pole motor, directional lighting and correct radiator grilles for each locomotive/period depicted.

47 148 was one of the steam heat only class 47/0 and is modelled in BR rail blue livery fitted with the original three-grille roof radiator arrangement and four-character train description still in use. 47148 was allocated to several Western region depots in the 1970s and 80s.

Celebrating the connections between the Great Western Railway and the country of Wales in 1985 47600 was named in Welsh and English Dewi Sant Saint David at Fishguard Harbour.

Built by English Electric at their Newton-le-Willows factory with the first of the class entering service in 1967. Originally leased to BR from EE for use on WCML services north of Crewe - Glasgow before the line had been fully electrified, the whole class were transfered to WR in the 1970's where they would be named after famous warships.

This Hornby model with it's centrally mounted motor and drive to all twelve wheels (again a first for the British modeller) giving impressively smooth running capabilities and excellent haulage capacity. Other feautres include opening cab doors plus working fan and directional lighting.

The mighty 'Hoover', built for the West Coast mainline and made redundant by the completion of electrification the class 50s became heir to the legacy of the Western regions' Warships. The Western region used them to, first exploiting the 100mph maximum speed on the Great Western main, Brunels' 'biliiard table' then shifting them to NE/SW InterCity trains. Not always on long trains either, delayed Sprinter deliveries resulted in 50s on sets of 4-5 Mk.2 coaches standing in. Drivers said they'd use the full maximum speed to keep time as station stops planned for centrally controlled sliding door trains took longer with the coaching stock.
The English Electric engine, derived from the engine inside Britains first mainline diesels, had a distinct sound. Now this sound comes to your own layout with this DCC Sound version of 50 018 Illustrious.

Hornby really have brought the class 56 up to current standards of detail with this new model. A smooth running mechanism and heavy chassis provides plenty of train-pulling power, just like the real locomotive! This model of 58 041 carries the name of one of its' major customers, the Ratcliffle Power Station near Nottingham. Painted in the original Railfreight grey livery with yellow cab sides and large arrows logo, the livery was complemented by the red painted solebars on the 58s.

One of the early designs of 25kV electric locomotives for the West Coast mainline electrification the AL5 type was built by BR works at Doncaster. Later calssified 85 under the TOPS system these were robust and reliable locomotives which had long service lives. Surviving the initial purge of less satisfactory types when the 'second generation' class 87s were built class 85s could still be found in charge of West Coast expresses until the late 1980s.
One of the classic British electric locomotives the 85 will be at home alongside the class 86, 87 and 90 locomotives available from Hornby and Heljan. Hopefully a model of the equally long-lived English Electric AL1/class 81 will follow and maybe the less successful 82, 83 and 84 classes to complete the fleet.

This model is represents the pre-TOPS numbering period with the locomotive now equiped with air train braking. To accomodate the air resovoirs on the roof one of the pantographs was removed. The standard rail blue livery was been applied at the same time as the new equipment was fitted.

The Derby Lightweight units were among the first types of diesel multiple unit to enter widespread service on British Railways in the 1950s. Making full use of the modern aluminium materials to craete a lightweight coach body the units could easily be propelled by???compact but low-powered diesel engines being produced for???buses. The design was a classic in styling, although more familiar today the use of all-round glazing, open-plan seating and the ability to see through the drivers' cabins were novel features.

Luckily, due to use by the engineering and research sections of BR, one of these units has survived, revealing the remarkably innovative construction and use of materials.

This unit will be painted in the BR blue???livery with yellow end warning panels.

An interesting livery variation carried bybthis class 101 diesel unit operating around Glasgow. The unit was painted in the BR rail blue style, but with SPE (Strathclyde) logos plus one yellow and one orange bodyside stripe.

The class 101 units built by Metropolitan Cammel were a mainstay of the BR diesel multiple unit fleet. This unit is painted in the blue and grey livery used on units from the early 1980s onwards, often applied following a major overhaul and facelift refit.

This model represents a western region allocated 3-car set with first class sections in the central trailer and one driving car.

The Class 105 Cravens diesel multiple unit will reflect the same standard of engineering excellence as its predecessor, the Class 108, which has enjoyed unprecedented popularity.

A new version of the Bachmann class 108 diesel multiple unit in the later blue & grey livery, as seen on the Western region replacing the unsuccesful Pacer trains.

This model of Plymouth based unit P956 is fitted with Paignton and Exeter destination blinds, a service??along the South Devon coast including the sea walls section through Dawlish and Teignmouth and the popular holiday beaches of Torquay.

A new 4CEP unit expected Autumn/Winter 2010

The first batch of these Southern Electric units proved so popular that Bachmann have planned another release with new numbers for 2010.
This model is of the BR design CEP unit, based on the BR Mk.1 coach design and built for the Kent coast electrification scheme.

This model carries the BR corporate blue and grey livery, applied from the late 1960s and carried until the units were rebuilt in the 1980s.
