Dapol N Virgin Trains Mk.3a First Class FO Coach (NC-050A)

Newly announced by Dapol is a range of BR Mk.3 type coaches, all to be equiped with NEM coupler pockets, fine profile wheels and able to accept the Dapol coach lighting unit.

This model is a locomotive-hauled Mk.3a first class coach painted in the Virgin Trains red livery.

The first of the Mk.3 design coaches were built for the experimental diesel powered High Speed Train in the mid 1970s. This was successfully developed into the HST train which is still in service today, over 30 years later. These coaches did not have side buffers or drag hook, therefore could not be conventionally coupled to a locomotive.
A second batch of Mk.3 coaches was ordered fitted with side buffers and conventional drawgear with coupling hook and side buffers. These were designated Mk.3A and a later batch Mk.3B and were built for West Coast mainline services, hauled by electric locomotives like the Dapol class 86. Naturally there were often forays to other places, especially at weekends and after replacement on the West Coast route by Pendolino trains.
