The GWR was a great promoter of larger capacity wagons in the 1930s, by which time the company already had many of these 20-ton capacity wagons in their own service.
The 20-ton loco coal wagon is very useful for GWR modelers. These???could be sent singly to country depots, supplying a weeks' worth of coal for branchline locomotives, or formed into longer trains to supply a major shed which might empty several of them every day.

The GWR cattle wagon changed little during the 20th century, being a much more modern design compared to the other companies cattle wagons when it was first built. The GWR design was adopted almost unaltered by British Railways as the standard cattle wagon, sllowing this model of the GWR wagon to represent the BR type as well.
This model carries the GWR goods grey livery with the late 1930s small style of lettering.
