The GWR iron mink was built in the early years of the 20th century. Built from iron and well protected by paint these vans were virtually indestructible and many were still in service at the end of WW2. The subtsantial construction was also useful for transporting explosives safely and many were used as improvised gunpowder vans duing two world wars.
This is an easy to build kit, take care to ensure that the axles are square so it will run well. The wagon can be painted in the GWR dark grey livery, or paint the wagon in black and add gunpowder van markings. Several private owners also ordered wagons based on this design, Spillers (flour) and Ferrocrete (cement) are well-known examples. | |

A fleet of almost 8,000 operated widely throughout BR until the mid 1960s. Our model gives the modeller the choice of either the original pressed steel side doors or the replacement standard doors, which many sported.

These ale wagons were rebuilt from the long Tube wagons. The sides could be lifted out to allow access to the full lnegth of the wagon for loading and unloading of pallettised goods.
This kit is quite easy to build, though care is needed to ensure that the floor and solebars remain lfat and level during construction to ensure the completed wagon runs well. The addition of some weight is essential for good running.

The well-known Southern CCT/PMV was derived from the design on which this kit is based. First built by the SECR (South Eastern & Chatham Railway) shortly before grouping. The Southern railway continued the design into the early 1930s, before revising the body to uneven planking to make better use of the timber available. Many of the orginal design, including SECR built vehicles were still in use in the 1970s, though most were in use as engineers stores vans by 1980.

Horsebox vans were a common sight on Briatins railways until the 1960s. This model kit is the GWR design dating from the 1920s, with a grooms' compartment, large side doors to allow horses to be loaded and unloaded easily and a stowage compartment for fodder.
Equiped with passenger type suspension, vacuum brakes and often steam heating these horseboxes would be conveyed by passenger trains on many branchlines and by secondary trains on the mainline. Long trains of horseboxes were also seen sometimes, especially when a major race meet or polo tournament was imminent! | |
