Bachmann O Brassworks LMS Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 with Tender BR Black Unlined Livery (BW076)
A superb O gauge model of the Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0. The appearance of the frames has been improved compared to previous models and the cab contains a great level of detailing for the backhead controls.
This model is supplied in a plain black finish, ready for lettering, lining and numbers to match the locomotive of your choice.
The Ivatt 2MT was introduced in 1946, one of the last LMS design locomotives, with building continuing into the early 1950s. The BR standard 2MT was basically a copy of the Ivatt design, but with BR standard fittings in place of the LMS equipment.
These locomotives were built specifically for branchline operations, where the LMS still operated many locomotives dating from the Victorian era. The 2MT was a modern, often more powerful replacement for the worn out machines, with greatly improved economy in coal and water from the incorporation of an extra 50 years of locomotive technology. The crews liked them to, as the tenders came equiped with back cabs, providing the comfort of a tank engine with the range offered by the tenders' larger water capacity.
2MTs worked on almost all regions of British Railways and, due to their small size, these locos have always been popular with modellers. A model layout sized 2MT with just a couple of wagons and a brake van would be a perfectly prototypical branch goods train. | |
