A N gauge model of the British Railways Presflo covered hopper type wagon with pressure discharge. These wagons were used for the transport of powder materials, particularly cement, during the 1960s and 70s.

A new number for the 27-ton iron ore tippler wagon.

These high-capacity 4-wheel open wagons did not have doors, being designed for unloading by a tippler which inverted the wagon, emptying it into a receiving hopper. Overhead grab cranes, earth-mover diggers and even JCBs can also be used to unload these wagons, making them popular for bulk materials like iron ore, chalk, sand and roadstone.

The versatile LMS 3-plank drop side wagon was continued by British Railways as the sandard medium height goods wagon. This wagon carries the BR bauxite livery, together with XP markings.

These wagons were equiped with vacuum train brakes and long-wheelbase chassis, allowing operation in fast goods trains and attachment to local passenger trains. Ideal for conveying road vehicles, containers and crated loads these wagons??were widely known by the 'Medfit' description code. No LMS or early BR era layout is complete without a few of these useful wagons.

An excellent model of the standard BR 16-ton open mineral wagon. Subjected to harsh treatment and often loaded with mildly corrosive materials, the rust weathering on this model represents the condition that many of these wagons were seen in.

The ex-GWR design brake vans were popular with the BR engineering departments, probably due to the generous covered accomodation available and enclosed veranda allowing tools to be stored safely in transit. This van is marked for use by the engineers of the signalling and telecommunications department.

The blue-spot fish vans were redeployed after the end of regular fish traffic on BR. Many were adopted by the engineering departments as parts and tool vans, this example being lettered for use by the locomotive engineers for use from the Barrow Hill shed near Chesterfield. These vans would have been used to transport new and repaired parts from the major engineering workshops and stores depots to the Barrow Hill shed to ensure that locomotive repairs could be effected quickly by the sheds' fitters.

These vans were used for traffic requiring protection from temperature variations, including fresh meat and chilled food products.??This model carries the blue??livery??which helped??ensure insulated vans were easily identifyable. When traffic requirements for these vans decreased they were often used as general service box vans.

This wagon is painted in the BR goods grey livery, as carried from new and in steadily weathering??condition well into the 1980s.

Many thousdands of former private owner wagons were taken over by British Railways in 1948.??A large number of these wagons were repaired and repainted into the BR grey goods livery, making them a key feature of the early British Railways period. These rebuilt wagons worked alongside the new steel wagons, being the last??wooden bodied coal wagons to be replaced.

Cattle, comprising all farm animals, were important business for the railways until the 1960s. Special wagons were required to convey live animals safely and quickly as, just like human passengers, animals needed to be fed and watered at regular intervals.
