Graham Farish have produced a very good model of the Austerity 0-6-0 saddle tank engine. A very useful locomtoive for the modeller, the chassis provides good slow running and train pulling capabilities.

The Austerity 0-6-0 saddle tank engines were adapted from a previous Hunslet industrial shunting engine design for quick building, heavy use with easy maintenance. After 1945 most were sold for further use with the LNER (later BR) and industrial users including collieries, the NCB and the steel industry.

The same design attributes of simplicity and ease of maintance made the J94 one of the ideal locomotives for early heritage railways. Powerful enough for passenger haulage on short lines the J94s trained a new generation of steam locomotive engineers and enginemen, forming the backbone of the steam fleet for Britains smaller heritage railways. Some having been in almost continuous use since building with only routine overhauls!
