Liliput HO Panzerspahag EP.2 Set 3 (powered) (L136502)
This model set contains two of the German WW2 armored railway patrol/scouting train cars.
The Kommandowagen command car, fitted with an overhead antenna array, is motorised allowing a formation of these armored railcars to be run. The second car is an Infanteriewagen and is unpowered.
This set forms the basis of a second half-train set, having different car numbers to those in Set 1.
Responding to the increasing threat of attack on the supply lines of German armed forces from resistance fighters new protection measures were planned. During the planning of an armored scout train an idea from the Tatra factory from the 1920s was used, a number of independant hand cars, each fitted with their own engine, were produced. Over these standard chassis a number of car types were built, Command Car, Infantry Car, Cannon Car and Pioneer Car. These four cars made up half a train, an armored train usually consisting of two stes.
The first armored scout trains were delayed in production and delivered in November 1944, with other trains following. A total of ten scout trains were ordered, but only six were finished before the end of the war. | |
