This hoist appears to be based on examples found at major locomotive depots for undretaking minor repairs. The hoist could???lift a locomotive at one end sufficiently for the wheels to be rolled out. A small block-and-tackle hoist is attached to allow heavy components like side rods???to be lifted and positioned alongside the engine.

Bachmann have announced that they will be producing a detailed model of the LMS design concrete locomotive coaling tower, closely based on the sole remaining example at Carnforth engine shed. This coaling tower is still standing, a prominant landmark at a depot still used to maintain and service steam locomotives operating on the mainline, making this model suitable for modellers of the current railway scene.
