The BR standard 4MT 2-6-4 tanks were popular with their crews and worked hard on many suburban services in the 1950's. This factory weathered version, dulling the originally glossy lined black livery, is typical of the travel weary condition of these engines in service. Combining the power for fast suburban passenger trains with the flexibility of a tank locomotive the 4MT tank is an ideal locomotives for heavy stopping passenger trains, even over quite long distances. Several examples are preserved, some even working tour trains on the mainline network.
