An excellent model of the rectangular type oil tank wagon in the plain black livery used by the Associated Chemical Companies of Wakefield.

It is most likely that this tank wagon would have been used to convey waste coal tar from the production of town gas to the companys' Kirkgate works. Black was often chosen as a livery for these tank wagons, not just for reasons of cost. The heavy oils carried were normally black and staining from spillage was less obtrusive.
