more | Heljan OO Brush/Hawker Siddeley HS4000 KESTREL Prototype Diesel Locomotive (4000)
A new limited edition prototype locomotive model from Heljan Production 4,000 models.
The Brush/Hawker Siddeley 4000bhp prototype locomotive HS4000 Kestrel, once the most powerful diesel locomotive in the world, available in OO gauge RTR for the first time!
Driven by a powerful motor mounted centrally in a heavy diecast chassis Heljan have provided a model powerplant equal to the task of replicating the Kestrel. The bodyshell with many pre-fitted detail parts captures the unique sculpted curves of the real locomotive, making it a stylish feature among the fleet of boxy production diesels.
Kestrel undertook trials on the most challenging routes, including the Lickey grade. Following limited service with British Rail Kestrel was sold to Russia and remained in service on international services for many years.

stock info | Heljan OO BRCW LION Prototype Type 4 Locomotive (4005)
Heljan have established a pattern of producing the prototype and trial locomotives built for BR in the 1960s with the Falcon and Kestrel models. Lion is another of these locomotives, effectively being the prototype for the class 47s locomotives which were the final result of the testing of the prototype designs.
Completed at the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon company at Smethwick, Birmingham in 1962 Lion was fitted with the Sulzer 12LDA engine set at 2,750bhp, combined with AEI electrical equipments. A demonstrator locomotive built in response to BRs specification for it's new standard type 4 locomotive it was given a striking white livery with gold bodyside stripes. The body styling followed the BR design panels' model, rail observers reporting the sighting of a 'giant albino Hymek' on test before official information was released.
Sadly, although using the prefered Sulzer engine and the obvious similarity to the final class 47 design, a lack of on-going orders put BRCW in financial difficulties by the early 1960s, Lions' service life was short, being scrapped in November 1963. BR turned to competitors Brush Traction, builders of Falcon, for the class 47 build.
Heljans locomotives are powered by a motor with twin flywheels set centrally in a heavy diecast chassis and driving all six axles. This provides excellent running even at slow speeds and plenty of train-haulage capability.

more | Heljan OO BR D8219 Class 15 BTH Diesel Locomotive Green with Small Yellow Ends (15011)
Heljan have advised us that they expect this model to arrive with them in Denmark by the end of July.
Heljans' next project is the BTH type 1, numbered in the D8200 series and later designated class 15. This model of D8219 will be painted in the BR green livery with small yellow warning panels.
Designed by BTH (British Thompson Houston) and built by the the Clayton and Yorkshire Engine Companies these 900bhp single cab locomotives resembled the road switcher design that had become popular in the US. This was intended to allow for easy operation and adequate visibility in either direction from one cab. In service this quickly proved the opposite, with visibility in both directions being significantly obstructed. Although more successful that some early diesel locomotive designs the Paxman engine proved unreliable in service and rationalisation or services almost eliminated work for such low powered engines. All were withdrawn by April 1972, however one example survived as a carriage heating unit and has been preserved.

Scheduled for production during 2009. Delivery date to be advised
The North British 'baby warships' did not enjoy the highest profile of the Western regions' hydraulics, but performed their duties away from the limelight throughout the 1960s. This new, high specification model of the BR class 22 completes one of the missing links in the hydraulic fleet.
The Dapol model represents the later body style with split headcode boxes and will be powered by a flywheel drive mechanism with Dapols' smooth running 'super-creep' motor and 40:1 drive ratio, which has provided excellent slow-speed performance in Dapols' recent N gauge locomotives. The chassis incorporates directional lighting, a 21-pin DCC decoder socket and space for a sound system speaker has been designed into the fuel tank..

stock info | Heljan OO BR D5900 Class 23 Baby Deltic Bo-Bo Locomotive Green Small Yellow Panels (2300)
New model announced by Heljan. Expected Winter 2010/11
The 'Baby Deltic' was a partially successful attempt to use the Deltic engine, which was proving highly successful in the class 55 express passenger locomotives, in a smaller locomotive. Built with the typical EE nose end body styling the locomotives quite resembled the larger locomotives. Although the class 23s proved powerful and capable locomotives the Deltic power units were not well suited to the start-stop routine of suburban railway service. A review of locomotive performance by BR as a prelude to concentrating on fewer, more standard locomotive classes under the National Traction Plan brought the Baby Deltics' lives to an end in the early 1970s.
Heljan locomotives are powered by a centrally mounted motor surrounded by a heavy diecast chassis block driving both bogies. This mechanism provides smooth running and excellent train haulage capabilities.

One of the early designs of 25kV electric locomotives for the West Coast mainline electrification the AL5 type was built by BR works at Doncaster. Later calssified 85 under the TOPS system these were robust and reliable locomotives which had long service lives. Surviving the initial purge of less satisfactory types when the 'second generation' class 87s were built class 85s could still be found in charge of West Coast expresses until the late 1980s. One of the classic British electric locomotives the 85 will be at home alongside the class 86, 87 and 90 locomotives available from Hornby and Heljan. Hopefully a model of the equally long-lived English Electric AL1/class 81 will follow and maybe the less successful 82, 83 and 84 classes to complete the fleet. stock info | Heljan OO E79960 Waggon und Maschinenbau 4-Wheel Railbus Light Green (8700)
New model from Heljan. Expected Spring 2011.
British Railways experimented with 4-wheeled railbus cars from a number of builders in the late 1950s. The German railways had achieved great success with these lightweight, fuel efficient railcars, providing efficient passenger service on remote branch lines with a minimum crew. The single car required a driver and guard, who could also act as conductor, collecting fares. This allowed station staffing to be reduced, trying to bring the costs back in line with the takings.
Purchased from German builders Waggon und Maschinenbau these cars were generally similar to the railbuses operated by the German railways. This model of E79960 will be painted in the initial light green livery with speed whisker stripes.
