These bulk grain wagons were among the first of the modern era of British railway wagons, replacing steam era designs. A long wheelbase chassis and automatic train brake system allowed an increase in train speed, while the 35-ton capacity maximised the load within existing axle load limits for unrestricted use.

Painted in plain bauxite brown these wagons were actually owned by wagon leasing company BRT.
