The slope-sided type 16-ton mineral wagon, as built for the Ministry of Works and Transport during the 1940's. These wagons were later taken over by British Railways and slowly repainted into BR grey livery.
These were intended to be more robust and higher capacity versions of the old 10/12-ton wooden coal wagons, many of which had deteriorated into a very poor condition after intensive use during WWII. | |
