Bachmann OO BR 8 Plank Fixed End Open Wagon ex-Private Owner Goods Grey Livery (37-158)

An excellent model of an ex-private owner 8-plank open coal wagon in BR service. Painted in the standard goods grey livery this wagon carries a P series number and V marking indicating that doors are fitted into the floor for emptying into undertrack staithes or hoppers.

Following the pooling of coal wagons during WW2 many thousands of privately owned wagons were passed to British Railways at nationalisation. These wagons were painted in the standard grey livery and given numbers prefixed with the letter P.

Following many years of poor or non-existant maintenance during wartime many private owner wagons were in a very bad condition by 1948. The best and newest wagons were overhauled to rehabilitate the wagon fleet until the mass construction of 16-ton steel mineral wagons could replace the old wooden wagons.
