Antics Limited Edition
Continuing our series of private owner wagons is this interesting 7-plank open operated by John Stephens, Son & Co. Ltd. of Gloucester and fully describing their business as "Jam & Pickle Manufacturers & Vinegar Brewers". Another wagon to add variety to your trains and for the collector of unusual private owners.
Trade directories for 1905 and 1935 give John Stephens business address as St. Catherine Street, Gloucester and coal was certainly purchased from the Eastern United Colliery in the Forest of Dean. Coal may also have been obtained elsewhere, Gloucester having excellent direct rail links into the Midlands, South Wales and Somerset coal fields.
This interesting wagon was supplied by the Gloucester RC&W Co. in 1901, painted black with white lettering. | |
