The British designed WD (for war department) 2-8-0 locomotives were ordered as part of the preparations for the invasion of Europe. The allied forces recognised that they would need to re-instate the railways quickly to supply the advancing troops. Locomotives and wagons were shipped to Europe and many were handed over to the civilian railway authorities. This locomotive carries the livery of the Dutch railways
