The railways nationalisation act placed the British rail network under the control the British Railways Board on the 1st of January 1948. The board appointed Robert Riddles as its’ chief engineer, charging him with the design of standard locomotives, coaches and wagons, for use across the entire BR network. A design philosophy was evolved, combining standardisation of parts and fittings with accessibility and ease of maintenance.

999 BR Standard locomotives were built, from 1951, in 12 types, ranging from 2MT 2-6-0 and 2-6-2 tank classes for local use to the 9F heavy goods 2-10-0 and Britannia class express passenger 4-6-2. Initially region loyal enginemen disliked the standard types, however reliability and the comfort offered by enclosed cabs made many converts and standard locomotives served successfully on all regions until displaced by diesel power.

Bachmann OO BR 76020 Standard Class 4MT 2-6-0 BR2B Tender Early Emblem (DCC OnBoard) (32-953DC)

A superbly detailed model of the BR 4MT 2-6-0 with separately fitted pipe runs, detailed cab interior, detailed tender interior coal space and removable coal load. Careful design of the chassis has allowed the daylight visible below the running board to be reproduced while accomodating a capable motor inside the boiler to provide power for prototypical length trains. An additional optional detail pack is supplied containing cab side doors, brake pull rod assembly, front steps and cylinder drain pipes.

This Locomotive is supplied with a factory fitted DCC decoder.

This is the first ready to run model of the BR standard 4 2-6-0 mogul, a design which followed on from the LMS 4MT.

76020 is equiped with the original style BR2B tender, with raised central bunker allowing good visibility for tender-first running. Painted in the early BR lined black livery with early lion over wheel emblem.

DCC OnBoard and all other DCC equiped locomtoives will work on conventional DC controlled layouts without modification.
Note Decoder fitted locomotives must not be operated with feedback type control systems and that any high-frequency acessories (eg electronic track cleaning units) must be switched off or isolated to prevent damage to the decoder electronics.
