Bachmann OO BR 76053 Standard Class 4MT 2-6-0 BR1b Tender Lined Black Early Crest (32-950)
A superbly detailed model of the BR 4MT 2-6-0 with separately fitted pipe runs, detailed cab interior, detailed tender interior coal space and removable coal load. Careful design of the chassis has allowed the daylight visible below the running board to be reproduced while accomodating a capable motor inside the boiler to provide power for prototypical length trains. An additional optional detail pack is supplied containing cab side doors, brake pull rod assembly, front steps and cylinder drain pipes.
This is the first ready to run model of the BR standard 4 2-6-0 mogul, a design which followed on from the LMS 4MT. 76053 is paired with the BR1b Stanier style tender, initially used on the Southern region where increased water capacity was needed.
DCC Ready. This model requires an 8-pin decoder for DCC conversion.
Remember! Antics Price includes mainland UK delivery of your new locomotive.
The 4MT mogul was perhaps the design which best embodied the design philosophy of accessibility and ease of maintenance. Smaller wheels than the 4-6-0 designs provided better traction for hauling goods trains at the expense of top speed but, just like the 9Fs, 80mph could easily be attained with passenger trains. That was more than enough to maintain 1950s schedules for secondary passenger services.
The smaller wheels give the running boards a much higher-set look, standing clear over the mechanical parts of the engines which are easily accessible for maintenance. There is no pretending that this was anything but a utilitarian, general purpose locomotive and the 4MT 2-6-0 was a welcome and popular addition to the national BR fleet. | |
