An excellent model of the Hughes designed 4MT 2-6-0 locomotives, knwn as the Horwich Crab due to the ungainly appearance of the large sloping cylinders. These locomotives were the first successful large and modern locomotives built for the LMS from 1926, with the last examples not being withdrawn until 1967.

Era 5 - This model of 42919 features a number of separately fitted details, including footsteps and tender coal rails. Painted in the late BR lined black mixed traffic livery with a rivetted tender.

Single driver locomotives were mostly obsolete by the end of the 19th century, however some of the later designs with superheated boilers were still in service after the grouping in 1923.

This locomotive replicates the last of the singles on the LMS, painted in the lined black livery applied to secondary passenger locomotives. The fast running singles could often be seen in use as pilot engines, leading a double-headed train and on many lightly-loaded cross-country passenger trains.
