Hornby OO LMS 6100 Royal Scot Class 7P 4-6-0 Collectors Centre Special Edition (R2664)

A suurb model of the famous LMS 6100 Royal Scot in full LMS lined maroon passenger livery, as preserved at the National Railway Museum, York.
Manufacturerd from Hornbys' latest tooling with the highest levels of detailing provided using dozens of separately fitted parts. 6100 Royal Scot features a double chimney and the American railroad bell, commemorating the locomotives' promotional tour of the USA during the 1930s. The livery authetically recreates the 1930s appearancve, however modern era is reflected in the fitting of a speedometer cable to the rear driving axle and overhead line warning flashes on the boiler.
Just like their other recent models Hornby have fitted the motor into the boiler without compromising the cab, where the fully detailed driving controls and steam pipes have been picked out in appropriate colours, including markings on the gauge dials. Additional power pickup connections are made to the tender to ensure smooth running and cab side doors are fitted. A pack of optional detailing parts is also supplied containing brake linkages, front steps, cylinder drain pipes and a screw coupling which can be fitted for those wishing to display the model, or for operation on large radius curves.

DCC Ready. Limited edition of 1,200 models. Remember! Anticsonline price includes mainland UK delivery of your Royal Scot model.

Minimum radius No.2 curve 438mm 17¼in. Please note that some optional detailing parts may be damaged if fitted to a model operating on the minimum radius. Modellers wishing to fit the detailing parts are advised to check clearances on their minimum curve radius before securing these.

The Royal Scot class 4-6-0 was introduced in 1927 by the LMS. The original design by Sir Henry Fowler was based on the Southern Railways' Lord Nelson class 4-6-0, but incorporating three cylinders. The first fifty locomotives were built by the North British Locomotive Company, ready for service in 1927, with a further 20 locomotives built later at Derby. Ordered to improve the speed of the Anglo-Scottish services the class took their name from the principal train of the era, the 10am Royal Scot, after which the first locomotive was named with the rest of the class taking the names of famous regiments of the British army.

Stanier took control of locomotive matters on the LMS in the 1930s, introducing the Swindon style tapered boiler and with the Royal Scot boilers falling due for replacement from 1943 many of the class were rebuilt with new Stanier type tapered boilers. It is estimated that the engines achieved between 2 and 3 million miles during their working lives, the last of the class being withdrawn in 1965.

LMS 6100 Royal Scot had covered 2.2 million miles before withdraw in 1962, but luckily passed into preservation couresy of Billy Butlin, being cosmetically restored for display at Skegness. Offered on loan to the new steam centre at Bressingham the locomotive moved from the holiday camp in 1971 and was restored to working order. During 2005/6, following a national lottery heritage grant 61000 was restored to mainline operation at Southall and is now part of the National railway Museums' operational steam fleet.

Interestingly the current LMS crimson lake livery carried by the locomotive is a preservation era livery for the locomotive in its' rebuilt form, it's final LMS livery being believed to have been wartime lined black, followed by lined brunswick green during BR service. The LMS maroon livery was probably first applied ready for display at Butlins in 1962.
