A special model of the NRM owned LMS Coronation class pacific 6229 Duchess of Hamilton being produced to mark the return to operation of this locomotive, restored with the streamlined casing.

Hornby recently completely retooled the streamlined Coronation model, making this one of the best British steam locomotive models available.

Britain is indebted to Billy Butlin for the survival of 6229 Duchess of Hamilton and several other historic steam locomotives. Cosmetically overhauled BR 46229 was displayed Bultins' at Minehead Holiday Camp before being passed to the National Railway Museum at York in 1976, initially on loan. Almost immediately the huge pacific became the museums' flagship locomotive, being returned to mainline operation by the Friends of the National Railway Museum and operating until 1985. Purchased by the museum on behalf of the nation in 1987 and fully overhauled Duchess of Hamilton returned to the mainline in 1987, being withdrawn for overhaul again in 1996.

Following almost two decades of mainline service and over 60 years after building Duchess of Hamilton is again about to emerge from a railway workshop. Restored to her original streamlined design and  completely overhauled Duchess of Hamilton will be ready for many more years of service.

The project completion is expected in January 2008, with the Duchess making a stylish return to York marking the 70th anniversary of the Coronation Scot service.
