Bachmann OO BR 46521 Ivatt Class 2MT 2-6-0 Lined Green Late Crest (32-825)
Bachmann have made an excellent job of the Ivatt class 2MT, capturing the look of these small 2-6-0s very well. The model has dozens of separately fitted parts, from lamp irons to wire handrails.
Despite the deminutive size the motor has been fitted within the locomotive, with a DCC socket conveniently situated in the tender. A range of optional parts are supplied, including a shorter tender drawbar for use with larger radius curves.
Preserved Ivatt 2MT 46521 is painted in the BR lined brunswick green livery with later style lion holding wheel emblem.
Model fitted with 8-pin DCC decoder socket
Ivatt designed 2MT 2-6-0 46521 was built by British Railways at the former GWR Swindon locomotive works in 1953. The locomotive spent its entire BR career on former GWR metals. Initially allocated to Oswestry Depot. 46521 has also been allocated to Brecon and Machynlleth sheds.
The locomotive was withdrawn from service in October 1966, and purchased for scrapping by Woodham Bros. arriving at their Barry scrap yard in March 1967.
Woodhams had also purchased a large number of redundant wagons and stored the locomotives, which were more costly to dismantle. 46521 was rescued from the scrapyard at Barry in 1971 and restored to service on the Severn Valley Railway in 1974. Now under the care of the Loughborough Standard Locomotive Group on the Great Central Railway 46521 is currently undergoing a rebuild which will make the locomotive ready for a further 10 years of service. |
