A suurb model of the famous LMS 6100 Royal Scot in full LMS lined maroon passenger livery, as preserved at the National Railway Museum, York.
Manufacturerd from Hornbys' latest tooling with the highest levels of detailing provided using dozens of separately fitted parts. 6100 Royal Scot features a double chimney and the American railroad bell, commemorating the locomotives' promotional tour of the USA during the 1930s. The livery authetically recreates the 1930s appearancve, however modern era is reflected in the fitting of a speedometer cable to the rear driving axle and overhead line warning flashes on the boiler.
Just like their other recent models Hornby have fitted the motor into the boiler without compromising the cab, where the fully detailed driving controls and steam pipes have been picked out in appropriate colours, including markings on the gauge dials. Additional power pickup connections are made to the tender to ensure smooth running and cab side doors are fitted. A pack of optional detailing parts is also supplied containing brake linkages, front steps, cylinder drain pipes and a screw coupling which can be fitted for those wishing to display the model, or for operation on large radius curves.

Single driver locomotives were mostly obsolete by the end of the 19th century, however some of the later designs with superheated boilers were still in service after the grouping in 1923.

This locomotive replicates the last of the singles on the LMS, painted in the lined black livery applied to secondary passenger locomotives. The fast running singles could often be seen in use as pilot engines, leading a double-headed train and on many lightly-loaded cross-country passenger trains.

Designed by Ivatt as a modern branchline locomotive the type became familiar across the former LMS system on short passenger and pickup goods trains. Later the 'class 2 tank' spread to other regions, replacing obsolete Victorian locomotives on many minor routes.
