| > OO Locomotives > GWR | In 1923, the railways in the UK were rationalised into four big companies - the grouping. The GWR remained almost unchanged and locomotive development unaffected. Dean at the beginning of the 20th century, then Churchward, Collett and Hawksworth were Chief Mechanical Engineers who developed the GWR loco with its unique style. On nationalisation in 1947 GWR loco's were the only ones to retain their pre-nationalisation numbers.
Great Western Railway locomotives were generally very successful and many remained in service almost untouched through the years from nationalisation in 1947 until the end of steam traction. A Castle 4-6-0 sending up a column of smoke as it slipped and struggled to pull a heavy South Wales express away from Swindon was quite a sight.
Remember! All orders over £40.00 are carriage paid – no extra or hidden charge! | Bachmann OO Collett Goods 0-6-0 2244 BR Lined Green Late Crest with Churchward Tender (DCC Fitted) (32-300DC)
Equiped with a factory-fitted DCC decoder.
An excellent model of the Collett designed 0-6-0 goods engine ofd the 1930s. These locomotives, often referred to as Baby Castles due to ther family resemblence to the Collett passenger engines were intended to replace the Dean design Standard Goods 0-6-0 of the 1900s. A useful mixed-traffic design, able to handle passenger and goods trains economically the Collett Goods was the largest engine operated on many branchlines.
This model of 2244 is painted in the BR passenger lined green livery DCC On Board locomotives are suitable for use with DC or NMRA DCC control systems including Lenz and Bachmann controllers. The locomotive will also operate on analogue DC controlled layouts, but must not be operated with feedback type controllers or with high-frequency accessories, eg. electronic track cleaning aparatus. | |
