Hornby OO GWR 5 Portishead 0-6-0 Terrier Tank Locomotive (R2679)

The Hornby terrier is an excellent small steam locomotive. The detailed body is fitted over a smooth running chassis with the cab area kept clear to allow a crew to be fitted if desired.

These small 0-6-0 tank engines were built by the LB&SCR, their exceptional power for such a tiny locomotive earned them the name 'terriers' from the crews. Light enough to traverse many minor routes and branchlines barred to larger engines the Victorian terriers were still at work long after nationalisation.
The Great Western Railway obtained number 5, Portishead, from the Weston, Clevedon and Portishead Light Railway (near Bristol) during WW2, when materials from the moribund light railway was recovered for the war effort. The lines' two Terrier locomotives were transferred to the GWR and overhauled for use on the dockside lines in Bristol. The locomotives were also hired out to industry users and the war department.

Hornby OO BR 1007 Count of Brecknock 4-6-0 (R2558)

An excellent model of the Hawksworth designed County class 4-6-0 in British Railways mixed traffic lined black livery.

The county class was one of the few new designs produced by the GWR between WW2 and nationalisation. These locomotives featured a higher boiler working pressure than had previously been employed, allowing the simplier 2-cylinder locomotives to perform many tasks previously demanding a 4-cylinder design. The class was highly regarded by enginemen who learned how to get the best performance from them.
