Rail transport is well suited to the haulage of bulk loads over significant distances. BR developed new wagons in the 1970s, focusing on the efficient haulage of bulk loads, using higher capacity wagons to reduce the empty vehicle weight. Combined with new designs of frames and quick acting air brakes the new and longer 4-wheel and 100-ton bogie wagons can travel safely at higher train speeds, reducing transit time. An increase in wagon leasing by customers and traffic from Europe has also seen the reappearance of bright advertising liveries on many types of wagons.

A new OO model of the bogie flat bed Cargowaggon ferry wagon. An ideal companion to the Heljan Cargowaggon sliding door vans, these flat wagons allow much easier access for loading by overhead cranes.

The frame of the flat wagon must take the full load, as there is no roof beam to maintain rigidity. Hence the underframe beams are much deeper on these wagons.

This model is presented in a freshly painted ex-works finish with Corus Rail branding, marking this wagon as dedicated to Corus steel traffic.
