Both Hornby and Bachmann sets use standard OO/HO track which is compatible - either may be expanded with either Hornby or Peco track. The loco's and rolling stock are also compatible as the couplings are very alike and will connect without problem. Both use a mains powererd controller providing a 12v variable speed supply for one locomotive. Unless stated otherwise they are ready to run once assembled.

Hornby OO The Mallard Express Train Set (R1064)

This excellent train set from Hornby features Gresley designed A4 class pacific locomotive 60022 Mallard, the holder of the world speed record for steam traction at 126mph. Four Gresley coaches in BR crimson & cream livery are supplied to form the Mallard Express, railwaymens' name for East Coast expresses between London and Scotland not given an official name and recently reinstated officially by current operators GNER.

The train set includes a Trackmat and oval of track, 12-volt speed controller with UK mains transformer plus track packs A and B allowing two sidings to be added. Hornby's step-by-step guide to railway modelling CD is also supplied to help you make the most of your train set.

Trackmat measures 1640 x 940mm, 65 x 37in. Further track packs are available to complete the Trackmat layout.
