Both Hornby and Bachmann sets use standard OO/HO track which is compatible - either may be expanded with either Hornby or Peco track. The loco's and rolling stock are also compatible as the couplings are very alike and will connect without problem. Both use a mains powererd controller providing a 12v variable speed supply for one locomotive. Unless stated otherwise they are ready to run once assembled.

The substantial double track circuit is large enough to allow an additional train to be added at a later date to either the inner or outer oval and it is for this reason that the HM2000 twin controller (See power controller section for specification) has also been included so that two trains can be independently controlled while operating on the two seperate circuits.

The abundance of track coupled with the inclusion of the HM2000 transformer/controller means that this set is the start of a complete model railway layout. Using the TrakMat included, this set can be gradually built up with the addition fo further locomotives, rolling stock, track, buildings and scenic material all obtainable from the Hornby range. And to assist further development of the set, the Hornby Virtual Railway CD-Rom is also included. The 'Master Cutler' - the express way to build a model railway!
