Written by John Scott-Morgan and Kirk Martin and produced in association with the London Transport Museum this profusely illustrated book is the story of the thirteen GWR pannier tanks purchsed by London Transport. Many in-service views are included, showing panniers at work alongside LT electric trains, underground, on the surface and finally in retirement.

Serving until 1971, well into the time when colour photography was affordable and being the last working mainline steam locomotives in the UK these locomotives were captured on film during the final years. Many of these locomotives have continued in active retiring heritage railways and providing steam power during the first seasons of several of todays best known lines.
