The 40 series Kadee metal knuckle couplers are supplied with draft boxes ready for installation beneath the floor of any model not equiped with NEM coupler pockets. A height gauge (Kadee 205) is recommended to ensure the correct mounitng height is achieved.
No.49 couplers have an overset shank, placing the knuckle lower than the line of the draft box. Suitable for models with high set floors and where clearance is needed above bogies etc..

Many British OO models can easily be fitted with Kadee couplers. Frequently it will be found that the correct coupler height is obtained with the coupler box mounted directly beneath the buffer beam using a 46 coupler. The 49 coupler can be useful where it is preferable to mount the coupler through the headstock, for example on vehices where the area below the headstock is obstructed by essential parts of the running gear. | |
