The 40 series Kadee metal knuckle couplers are supplied with draft boxes ready for installation beneath the floor of any model not equiped with NEM coupler pockets. A height gauge (Kadee 205) is recommended to ensure the correct mounitng height is achieved.

No.41 couplers have an underset shank, placing the knuckle above the line of the draft box. Suitable for models with low floors, deep buffer beams and for bogie-mounted couplers.

Many British OO models can easily be fitted with Kadee couplers. Frequently it will be found that the correct coupler height is obtained with the coupler box mounted directly beneath the buffer beam using a 46 coupler. The underset shanke of the 41 coupler can be useful for bogie mounted couplings on long wagons and for wagons with low floors or obstuctions preventing direct attachment under the ends.

The underset 41 coupler can also be used to attach the draft box beneath the headstocks of European HO models not equiped with NEM coupler pockets.
